Washi Tape Cake Bunting Tutorial

Hi DimplePrints readers, it’s Holly again from Paisley Petal Events. I’m a little obsessed with washi tape right now. I didn’t even really know what it was until a couple of months ago, but now I use it for any and everything! I’ve used it to decorate utensils, dress up snack bags, embellish fun desserts in a jar and more!

So today I’m sharing another fun idea to create with washi tape – a mini bunting for a birthday cake! Sometimes it isn’t feasible to create an elaborate and expensive birthday party, so this idea is perfect for that! All you need to do is purchase a simple cake at your local grocery store (I got mine at Walmart) and create this fun banner using bamboo skewers and washi tape to dress it up.

I usually purchase my washi tape at Target or online daily deal websites, but a brand new online store just opened, called Downtown Tape where they sell rolls of washi tape for $1.99 a roll which is a great price! And if you’re interested in winning some, head over to my blog where I’m doing a giveaway for 10 free rolls of tape.

To make the bunting, you’ll need washi tape, baker’s twine or string and some skewers or dowels.

Simply wrap the tape around your piece of twine in the desired colors of your choice. You can either leave it raw like this for a fun look, or trim it with scissors into triangle shapes like I’ve done.

Attach the twine to your dowels and insert into your cake – so simple, but really gives your cake a little special touch!

Have you used washi tape for anything lately? Let me know below in the comments, I’d love to hear!
